Los Angeles, CA – The Glassell Park Improvement Association (GPIA) and Glassell Park Neighborhood Council (GPNC) are co-sponsoring a Town Hall for the upcoming Council District 1 election on February 16, 2017 at 7pm. The primary will take place on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 and the General Municipal Election will follow on May 16, 2017. The Town Hall event will provide an opportunity for voters to get to know the candidates for the District 1 city council seat, and a forum through which the candidates may address concerns and questions presented by the public.

The candidates that will be participating in the debate are Joe Bray-Ali, Gil Cedillo, Giovany Hernandez, and Jesse Rosas.

The event is being moderated by Gabriela Teissier of Univision, and is co-sponsored by the Glassell Park Improvement Association, the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council, League of Women Voters - Los Angeles, Mt Washington Homeowners Alliance, Arroyo Arts Collective, Uptown Gay and Lesbian Alliance, LAUSD, Echo Park Neighborhood Council, Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council and the Historic Cultural Neighborhood Council. Gabriela Teissier is the co-host of Noticias 34: Primera Edición for Univision 34 KMEX-TV.

The organizers of this Town Hall and Debate hope that this format will engage the community, stimulating civic participation and voter turnout. The Glassell Park Improvement Association and Glassell Park Neighborhood Council invite residents to attend the Town Hall to learn more about the candidates, make their voices heard, and ensure that their city council represents them and their concerns. Questions for the candidates can be submitted ahead of the event at GPIA.org and will be forwarded to the forum moderator.

The Town Hall will be located at Sonia Sotomayor Learning Academies, 2050 N. San Fernando Road, Los Angeles, CA 90065. Free on-site parking will be available.
