The GPIA will provide dinner for those at the shelter
A group of volunteers and the congregation and pastor of All Saints Episcopal Church have opened a much-needed Winter Shelter for homeless people of Northeast Los Angeles, and the GPIA is happy to take part in their service to our community by providing dinner for shelter guests and volunteers on Sunday, January 31st.
To make our “night” a success, we need help in many areas: planning our menu, making our shopping list, doing the shopping/asking for food & beverage donations, cooking, setup, meal service and cleanup. In addition, if any musicians would like to volunteer their talents, it would be great to offer everyone entertainment.
We will be preparing dinner for 30-40 adults, and will serve our meal from 6:30-8:00pm.
After dinner, from 7:30-9:00pm, a new shift of volunteers will deliver desserts (cupcakes, cookies) while another group cleans up the kitchen.
The shelter is located at All Saints Episcopal Church, 5619 Monte Vista Street (at Avenue 56) in Highland Park. In addition to providing those in need a warm, safe place to sleep, Recycled Resources for the Homeless offers case management, linkage to housing opportunities, support groups and food.
Volunteers may sign up on the GPIA’s website: www.gpia.org.
